Elisabeth Arenales, Director of Health Program

Elisabeth Arenales has been director of the Colorado Center on Law and Policy’s Health Program since January 2000. She is recognized as a health policy expert and focuses on access to public health insurance programs, including Medicaid. Ms. Arenales has a strong track record of protecting, preserving and expanding access to healthcare, particularly for lower-income Coloradans. She was a founder and served for six years as board chair of the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative, served as a consumer representative on the Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care Reform and is currently a member of the Colorado Commission on Affordable Health Care. Prior to working at CCLP, Ms. Arenales was staff attorney for the Colorado Lawyers Committee, where she focused on access to education, particularly in rural areas of Colorado. Ms. Arenales graduated Order of the Coif from the University of Colorado School of Law and Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania. She has been recognized by a number of organizations including in 2006, as a community health leader by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  In 2014, she received the Iglehart Award for leadership in health policy from The Colorado Health Foundation and the Tip of the Spear Award from the Colorado Medical Society.
